NEW CHANGES
15 Mar 2011 Leave a Comment
Hi Parents & Youth,
We have changed the blog to Project-U-Turn Inc. rather than just for RubyGirls. We are becoming more compatible for both programs in areas where RubyGirl existed by itself for so many years. Please bear with us as we come across ways to be more effective with our program for both the girls and boys.
Thanks for your patience and allowing your child to be apart of the Family!

ADDITIONAL CALVIN COLLEGE INFO
07 Mar 2011 Leave a Comment
Hello Parents this just came via email from CALVIN ADMISSIONS!!
Greetings from Calvin College ! I am delighted to know that you are coming for the “Fridays at Calvin” campus visitation program on March 11. Visiting is the best way to find out what Calvin is all about, and I’ve begun to make the arrangements so that your time on campus is enjoyable and worthwhile.
Here’s everything you’ll need to know before your visit…
What to bring: Be prepared for a carpet campout with your sleeping bag and pillow. If you are not able to bring a sleeping bag we will be happy to let you borrow one, just let us know ahead of time! You may also want to bring spending money, towels, swimsuit/sweats—if you wish to use the athletic facilities and a book or some homework (since your host is also a student!).
Lodging/Meals: You will be our guest for your lodging and meals. You’ll be staying in the residence halls with a Calvin student host and will have meals at the dining halls or with the “Fridays” program.
Registration: Information about your visit will be waiting for you there. We’ve arranged for your host to meet you after the program for your stay in the residence halls. A cloakroom will be available for your luggage.
The “Fridays at Calvin” Program: The program begins at 8:45 a.m. EST, includes lunch, and lasts until 3:30 p.m. You can view the schedule through the following link: http://www.calvin.edu/admin/admissions/visit-options/fac.htm.

Hello Parents & Students
Calvin College Trip is around the corner! Our hopes is that you will come with an attitude to gain information about your future. College is a necessity not an option; thus learning from the experience and asking a lot of questions. We will be following the schedule that Calvin has planned for us, remember this is not the college anyone has to attend. However, they are gracious enough to allow Project-U-Turn group to be their special guest!
Please remember we must leave promptly at 6:00am to arrive on time at 8:00am. Please pack lightly with overnight items, sleeping bag and pillow.
Boys will be housed in the BOYS Dormitory with a Calvin Student Ambassadors and the girls will be housed in the GIRLS Dormitory with Calvin Student Ambassadors.
You are welcome to bring light snacks for the overnight stay. The dorm will have activities planned or possibly attend whatever events are held on campus during this time.
Parents are asked to allow the youth to have a COLLEGE EXPERIENCE without the accessive phone calls, text messaging, etc…
Meals will be provided for Friday (Lunch & Dinner) & Saturday (Breakfast). Everyone will receive a meal card and is responsible for keeping up with it.
It is our expectation that your child will be on their best behavior representing not only the Parent, but the program and themselves. If any behavioral problems occur you must pick up your child in GRAND RAPIDS!!
Although we know we have GREAT KIDS! some things must be said!
If you have any question please contact the office: 313-397-9300
BULLYING…it’s WORSE than you think!
01 Mar 2011 1 Comment
Today’s Generation Y, consisting of 70 million Americans born between 1977-1995 (current high schoolers through early 30 something), life is far from being cheerful and for many, life ends far too early and tragically.
Suicide among teens and young adults has nearly tripled since the 1940’s. School-based “bullying” that has led to suicide has recently garnered national headlines. Fifty percent of current U.S. high schoolers say they have been bullied or teased by someone at least once in the past year.
When it comes to bullies, what would you do? Bullying is the opposite of the second greatest commandment: to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
How to deal with bullies:
- Keep communication lines open with your parents. Share information about school, school related activities, peers, teachers, etc.
- Withdrawal, lack of interest in school, a drop in grades or signs of physical abuse may indicate you are being bullied. PAY ATTENTION PARENTS.
- Inform school officials immediately. Keep your own written records of the names, dates, times, and circumstances of bullying incidents. Submit a copy of this report to the school principal.
- Stay clear of peers with bullying behavior.
Bullying in schools, at church, or on the Internet has devastating consequences and is UNACCEPTABLE for any reason.
